Obverse: Portrait of Mohammad Daud Khan (July 18, 1909 – April 28, 1978) was the First President of Afghanistan from 17 July 1973 to 28 April 1978; Emblem of Afghanistan (1974-1978) at lower center.
Reverse: Part of the ruins of the once powerful fortress Qila-e-Bost Arch near Lashkar Gah. The 11th century arch, marks the principal approach to the ancient fortress citadel of Bost, later renamed Lashkar Gah. Over the centuries, the city bore multiple assaults by the Ghorids, Genghis Khan, and Tamerlane. Today it is the capital of the Helmand province. Variant names: Qal'eh-ye Bost (Qal'eh-ye Bust, Qal'eh-ye Bist), Qal'a-i-Bust (Qal'a-i-Bost, Qal'a-i-Bist), Qala Bist (Qala Bust, Qala Bost), Qala-e-Bost.
