Obverse: the portraits of the Croatian Duke Fran Krsto Frankopan (1643-1671) and the Croatian Ban Petar Zrinski (1621-1671), Croatian noblemen and leaders of the movement for independence from Vienna, executed as conspirators on the same day.
Reverse: the keep of the Varaždin Castle (12th-16th century) and the ground plan of the Castle.
Watermark: the portraits of the Duke Fran Krsto Frankopan and the Croatian Ban Petar Zrinski, displayed on the left side of the banknote, in the central part of the blank area, visible when the banknote is viewed against the light.
Security thread: embedded on the left from the portraits, appears on the banknote surface in several small reflective silver rectangles featuring the inscription "5 HRK" and becomes fully visible when the banknote is viewed against the light.
Date of putting into circulation: October 31, 1993.
Dimensions: 122 mm x 61 mm.
Paper: toned, with embedded fluorescent fibres, a multitonal positioned watermark and security thread.
Main colour: green.
Print: the base is printed in multicoloured offset with an iridescent effect; the main motif, latent image and microtext are printed in intaglio and the inscriptions are embossed; the intaglio and embossed prints are perceptible by touch.
Latent image: the hidden inscription "KUNA", visible in the vertical rectangle positioned along the right edge of the banknote when the banknote is tilted while held flat.
Iridescent colour: on the high-gloss rectangular patch, positioned between the portraits and the right edge of the banknote, and on the high-gloss rectangular patches positioned above and below the watermark, along the upper and lower edges of the banknote, featuring fragmented images of the keep of the Varaždin Castle; when the banknote is tilted under the light, the iridescent colour on the base changes from silver to gold.
See-through register: a square positioned along the lower edge of the banknote drawing, bordered by the inscriptions "5 KUNA"; triangular elements of the see-through register on the obverse and reverse of the banknote match when the banknote is viewed against the light, forming letter "H".
Ultraviolet: some colours on the base of the banknote fluoresce under ultraviolet light; the series and serial number designation fluoresces green; the security thread iridesces.

Fran Krsto Frankopan (Hungarian: Frangepán Ferenc Kristóf; 1643–1671) was a Croatian baroque poet, nobleman and politician in the 17th century. He is remembered primarily for his involvement in the failed Zrinski-Frankopan conspiracy.
Petar Zrinski (Hungarian: Zrínyi Péter) (6 June 1621 – 30 April 1671) was a Croatian Ban (Viceroy) and writer. A member of the Zrinski noble family, he was noted for his role in the attempted Croatian-Hungarian rebellion of 1664-1670 which ultimately led to his execution for high treason.
