Obverse: Portrait of Victor Schoelcher (1804 – 1893), French abolitionist writer in the 19th century and the main spokesman for a group from Paris who worked for the abolition of slavery, and formed an abolition society in 1834. He worked especially hard for the abolition of slavery on the Caribbean islands.

Creole House - Museum of Joséphine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoléon Bonaparte and the first Empress of the French. Marie Josèphe Rose Tascher de La Pagerie (Joséphine de Beauharnais) was born in Les Trois-Îlets, Martinique to a wealthy white Creole family that owned a sugar plantation.



The Central Bank of Overseas Departments (IEDOM acronym) is a French public institution responsible for issuing currency in the overseas departments and communities overseas. It is within the framework of the Eurosystem. The IEDOM assumes the role of central bank in its area of operations, "in the name, on behalf and under the authority of the Bank of France." It has six branches located in La Réunion, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana and Mayotte.
