The third Series of Brunei Darussalam banknotes were issued by Brunei Currency Board in 1989. The third series of banknotes consists of 8 denomination i.e. $1, $5, $10, $50, $100, $500, $1000 and $10000 dollars. It is the first post independence series of banknotes after Brunei regained its independence from the United Kingdom on 1 January 1984.
Obverse: Portrait of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in military uniform, the 29th and current Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei.
Reverse: Padian woman paddling her boat in Kampong Ayer.
